Day 18 – Spine corrector class with Michael King

Day 18 – today I tried out the Pilates Anytime mobile site. I used my iphone with headphones in (so as not to disturb the other people in the studio) to watch and perform a 30 minute spine corrector class with Michael King. To see the class click here.

I found the mobile site very easy to use and navigate. The only irritating thing was that my iphone screen keep flipping from portrait to landscape as I was moving throughout the class. I know how to lock the screen on my ipad but I’m not sure how to do it on my iphone. Ofcourse trying to hold your phone up and watch it while also doing the class has it challenges but overall I found it manageable. I would love to see if there any classes where you in fact don’t even need to watch but can do the whole class just by listening to the cues.

I had never done a spine corrector class before and wasn’t sure what to expect. I loved the amount of extension in the class. My one criticism of Pilates is that it can be too flexion based. As Michael King says himself at the start, most of us need to do more extension. As you get older what happens? You become more and more flexed.

Of we can view it in evolutionary terms…..

Unfortunately I’ve never seen this progression.

The other thing I loved about the class was the music. I’ve always enjoyed exercising more to music and the choices were great to motivate as well as improve the flow of the movement.
